Chapter Philanthropy and Service
Our chapter puts on many events throughout the year to support our national philanthropy, breast cancer awareness and education. We host many events to raise money for our philanthropy including Queso for a Cause, Mr. Southwestern, and much more. In October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the members of our chapter volunteer in Austin's Susan G. Women walk and Georgetown's Jameson 5K hosted at Southwestern. In 2019, we hosted our first Mr. Southwestern event! This all male pageant is a super fun way to raise money for our philanthropy. This event takes place in our University's ballroom and over 100 people attend. Our chapter has also hosted joint philanthropy events with fraternities in order to support the philanthropies of other organizations; in the Spring of 2024, we hosted a Pickleball tournament with Pi Kappa Alpha, raising over $300 for the groups' philanthropies.
In addition, each member is required to fulfill 5 additional service hours independently, either in the Georgetown or Austin community, or at Southwestern. Members recently participated in Clean Up Georgetown, an initiative started by the Student Government Association; members assisted in cleaning up litter in different parts of Georgetown such as the Blue Hole and Lake Georgetown. Our chapter also hosts a Thrift Pop Up during Denim Day where members of the Southwestern community can shop thrifted items! All profits made are donated to the Lone Star Alliance in Austin.
